xxi Century Latin American Journalists: Beyond Post-Truth Politics

Abstract

Considering the complexity of circumstances that journalism is facing, academia should rethink the classical conceptions of the profession, especially when they reduce journalism to abstract models disregarding reporters’ actual practices. Results of a global research propose a new definition of journalism, a profession caught between conflicting interests that lack the supremacy of news production, as it used to be in the past century. It is all about broadening the debate to reconsider the role of the journalist in the contemporary information report, beyond current concepts such as post-truth.

Author Biography

  • Adriana Amado, Universidad Nacional de La Matanza (Argentina)

    Doctora en Ciencias Sociales (Flacso), especializada en comunicación pública y periodismo. Es docente e investigadora en Argentina y profesora visitante en Latinoamérica y España. Cuenta con varias publicaciones académicas, entre las que destacan diez libros de su autoría y más de veinte obras colectivas. Su última obra es Política pop: de líderes populistas a telepresidentes (2016) y El periodismo por los periodistas: Perfiles profesionales en las democracias de América Latina (ed., 2016). Es activista cívica desde infociudadana.org.ar, iniciativa que promueve la información pública responsable y desde Poder Ciudadano, capítulo argentino de Transparencia International, instituciones en las que forma parte de su comisión directiva.
