A participação de indivíduos latines na pesquisa clínica sobre o HIV nos Estados Unidos: envolvimento comunitário, idioma e comunicação

Indivíduos latinos que vivem nos Estados Unidos são desproporcionalmente impactados pela epidemia de HIV, mas sua representação na pesquisa clínica sobre HIV é sub-representada. Barreiras linguísticas, diferenças culturais e práticas de recrutamento limitam sua participação, especialmente para aqueles com proficiência limitada em inglês. Utilizando metodologias qualitativas, nosso estudo conduziu um grupo focal e 22 entrevistas em profundidade com pesquisadores, educadores e recrutadores comunitários, além de equipe clínica de 15 centros de pesquisa em HIV financiados pelos Institutos Nacionais de Saúde (NIH) dos Estados Unidos. As estratégias de recrutamento empregadas nos centros de pesquisa enfatizam o engajamento comunitário e a transmissão de mensagens culturalmente sensíveis. No entanto, os requisitos de inglês para participação em pesquisas clínicas, a falta de equipe bilíngue e a disponibilidade limitada de materiais traduzidos para o espanhol dificultam a inclusão de indivíduos latinos. Centros de pesquisa com equipe bilíngue e acesso a materiais traduzidos e adaptados culturalmente relataram maior confiança e engajamento da comunidade com a pesquisa. Nossa pesquisa constatou que o acesso ao idioma é essencial para a participação equitativa em pesquisas clínicas sobre HIV. Nossas recomendações incluem a incorporação de componentes de acesso ao idioma desde o início do desenho do estudo de pesquisa, a contratação de equipe bilíngue, o orçamento para traduções e o estabelecimento de parcerias com comunidades multilíngues para melhorar a inclusão de comunidades diversas.
