Magda Portal: representative figure of political practice and women’s emancipation in the 20th century

María Magdalena Julia del Portal Moreno, also known as Magda Portal, was an avant-garde writer, political activist, and one of the most influential female figures of the 20th century in Peru and internationally. Various works on feminism, avant-garde and political activism have focused their attention on Magda Portal since she has been notably recognized for her literary wit and constant political proselytism. Her literary legacy is a historical sensibility that drives the spirit to protest against the social injustices resulting from imperialism and oligarchy. Likewise, through her feminine writing, she registers her concern for the condition of the women of her time. She is also recognized for representing social practice and activism committed to conquering Peruvian women’s rights. For this work’s analysis, we have considered a varied bibliography about this intellectual's social and political struggle in the face of an imperialist society and male domination. Therefore, Magda Portal’s figure is considered of vital importance as a representative of political practice and women’s emancipation in Peru.
