Code of Ethics
Ethical Conduct Guidelines for Limaq in accordance with the Committee on Publication Ethics guidelines (Kleinert & Wager, 2011)
Author Commitments
Limaq requests authors to adhere to the following practices:
- The citation standard adopted by the journal is in accordance with the American Psychological Association (APA) Publication Manual in the current edition.
- The originality and contribution of the text must be highlighted in one or more of the following dimensions: theoretical, contextual, methodological, and results.
- Contents published by the same authors and referenced in the text must be cited both in the text and in the final references. To safeguard the neutrality of arbitration, the author may place the reference without specifying the date or title, both in the text and in the final references, as follows:
If the author were:
Rosales, J. (2016). A model for the analysis of cultural practices. The case of the Colombian short film Los retratos by Iván Gaona. Signo y Pensamiento, 35(68), 102-117.
Replace it with:
Author.
- In case of multiple authorship, the order of the authors must be coordinated in advance. It is the responsibility of the corresponding author to editorially manage the article and indicate the agreed order of authors. All authors are responsible for the content of the text, but it is the corresponding author who is in charge of the coordination during the process.
- Include as footnotes acknowledgments and recognitions for research collaborators.
- If applicable, authors must report the sources of funding for the research from which the article derives.
- By editorial policy, all communications will be formal. The editorial team is open to all criticism that allows improvement in editorial processes for the benefit of the authors. Hostile, derogatory, or personal judgments are not accepted. The official communication channel is the journal's email: [email protected].
Limaq considers the following practices reprehensible:
- Complete, partial, or fragmented publication of other authors’ ideas, disseminated in other media (academic journals or any other medium), without giving due credit (by proper referencing in the text and at the end of the article).
- Self-plagiarism. Partial or total re-edition of texts authored by oneself, published in other media (academic journals or any other medium), without giving due credit (by proper referencing in the text and at the end of the article).
- Plagiarism and self-plagiarism of graphic material. Reproduction of any form of graphic expression without the necessary permission for publication. This includes cases where the graphic material has been created by the authors and published elsewhere. Graphic material includes photographs, designs, drawings, plans, tables, and statistical graphs or diagrams.
- Data falsification. Application of fraudulent methodological procedures or falsification of primary sources. Likewise, failure to verify and ensure the reliability of primary sources (e.g., surveys or interviews conducted by third parties) used as secondary sources.
- Inadequate data treatment. The data or sources on which the results are based are not accessible. Authors do not take responsibility for providing a repository with data and adequate protection of personal data. Data used in the research have not been consented to by the participants.
- Violation of copyright. Those who made a significant intellectual contribution to the quality of the text are not recognized as authors of the article: conceptual elaboration, planning, organization and design of research, interpretation of findings, and writing. Lack of proper author ranking. In case of authorship disputes, the journal reserves the right to contact the institution(s) to which the authors are affiliated to clarify the situation. Articles presenting ghost authorship, by invitation or gifted, will be withdrawn[1].
- Conflicts of interest. Authors have economic, professional, or any other conditions that affect the treatment and neutrality of data and the formulation of results.
Actions against reprehensible practices:
- If any situation questioning the ethical principles mentioned above arises, the editorial team will communicate with the involved parties (including the academic institution) and request clarifying information. It is the authors' responsibility to provide clarifying information. Each case will be treated individually, but in accordance with the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics.
- If the article in dispute is in the midst of the arbitration process, it will be suspended until the facts are clarified. Once clarifying information is received from the involved parties, the editorial team will decide whether to cancel the arbitration process or to continue it.
- If the article in dispute is already published, it will be temporarily withdrawn from the digital version until the facts are clarified. Once clarifying information is received from the involved parties, the editorial team will decide whether to definitively withdraw its publication or maintain it online, and indicate the corresponding actions in the next printed issue. No retractions of already published articles will be made without prior notice.
- The editor's decision is final.
Reviewer Commitments
Limaq requests reviewers to comply with the following ethical considerations:
- Conflict of interest. Refrain from evaluating an article if they believe there are economic, professional, or any other conditions that influence the evaluation.
- Familiarity with the topic. Inform the editorial team if they believe they do not have sufficient academic and scientific expertise to evaluate the content of the article.
- Neutrality and impartiality. Withdraw from the evaluation if they identify the author or any of the authors. Similarly, if they have been involved in the research from which the work derives, whether as an informant, advisor, or evaluator.
- Ensure the time to carry out a methodical, rigorous, and fair review of the article. They should remember that, during the arbitration process, the article is under embargo, and authors, reviewers, and editors cannot disseminate its content.
- Collaboration and contribution. Support their judgments assertively and constructively. Hostile, derogatory, or personal judgments are not accepted. They should avoid making judgments based on nationality, religion, gender, and other characteristics inferred from the article.
- Do not disseminate and discuss the contents of the evaluation with other people or in public contexts, nor use the content of the article for personal or institutional purposes. The arbitration process is confidential before, during, and after this evaluation.
- Recommendations to authors. Avoid recommendations that affect the neutrality and confidentiality of the arbitration process. It is expressly prohibited for reviewers to recommend to authors their own scientific production.
- As evaluation is an act of scientific collaboration, recommendations that allow for the improvement of the article without affecting the anonymity of the evaluation will be valued.
- Ethical aspects. Report in their opinion if they find ethical irregularities in the research: plagiarism, self-plagiarism, falsification of sources, errors in data treatment, or omissions in the protection of personal data.
Editorial Team and Guest Editors Commitments
Limaq is committed to carrying out the following practices:
- Preliminary evaluation. The preliminary evaluation by the editor will be based on the editorial policy of the journal without taking into consideration to elements such as nationality, gender, ethnic origin, religion, or political opinion of the authors.
- Plagiarism check. Before starting the reception and evaluation process, manuscripts will undergo an anti-plagiarism check using Turnitin. The editorial team will analyze the anti-plagiarism report in detail and informing the authors of the results. Any article that exceeds 20 % of similary with the work of others will be excluded from the arbitration process, which will be communicated to the authors. Editors commit to maintain confidentiality regarding this evaluation.
- Reviewer selection. The editorial team ensures the selection of suitable reviewers to critically evaluate the author’s work and to contribute to its improvement.
- The editorial team will not disclose the editorial processes carried out.
- Conflict of interest. The editorial team will not use contents of articles submitted for publication in their own research without the authors' consent.
- The editorial team and editors will ensure maximum transparency and thorough and honest reporting of the editorial process.
- Open Access. Limaq is an open access journal, so no fees will be charged for access to the publication process.
- Errata and corrections. Any errors or requests for changes in articles published online will be communicated to the editorial team, which will determine the suitability of the request.
