Abstract

The interplay between architecture and philosophy offers fertile ground for exploring design, education, and conceptual innovation. This paper examines the transformative potential of this interdisciplinary relationship, focusing on how philosophical inquiry both informs and disrupts architectural practice. Central to this dialogue is the concept of l’informe (the formless), which destabilizes traditional notions of form and generates dynamic processes that bridge material and conceptual domains. The architectural design process inherently embodies dualities—form and formlessness, materiality and abstraction—resulting in objects that transcend their physicality to embody symbolic and conceptual significance. This interplay resists strict philosophical analyses while inspiring creative potential through uncertainty and instability. By investigating these tensions, the paper highlights how the convergence and resistance between architecture and philosophy drive the emergence of new forms and ideas, opening pathways to rethink architectural education, tools, and the production of space.
