Repetition and modulation in modern peruvian architecture. The San Felipe towers and high-rise social housing

In the mid-1960s, the presence of architects in government offices helped create social housing policies to address the urban issues and precarious living conditions that were evidenced by the 1940 census. Te first section of Residencial San Felipe, designed by Enrique Ciriani, introduced the tower typology, giving way to a new conception in high-rise housing. Tis article aims to showcase the rationalist design methodology behind the San Felipe Towers, based on the principle of abstraction, as well as its mechanisms of reproducibility and modulation, with Le Corbusier as its main influence. To this end, we conduct a formal and analytic study based on a breakdown of the building by means of sequential procedures. the results show that the abstract and rationalist criteria of the composition vouches for a total art work in which space, construction, details and economy are its basilar design elements.
