Aim: The current agricultural system faces multiple challenges. To address this situation, agriculture must transition toward a sustainable development model. This article aims to review the four most representative current practices of sustainable agriculture, analyze their development trajectories, and discuss the common challenges faced in the promotion of sustainable agriculture, proposing corresponding policy recommendations. Methodology: This study is a
narrative review article, primarily based on the collection of existing literature and theoretical frameworks, in order to synthetically present the main sustainable agricultural practices and, based on a comprehensive analysis, offer specific reflections and recommendations. Results: Although various sustainable agricultural practices have been widely promoted globally, they face common practical difficulties such as conceptual frameworks, limited productive efficiency, high technological thresholds, a lack of eco-innovation, and insufficient institutional support. Therefore, this study proposes to strengthen their implementation by promoting intersectoral collaborative innovation, enhancing organizational governance capacity, and building a more inclusive and behavior-oriented policy framework. Originality/value: This study offers a structured perspective to understand the real difficulties faced by sustainable agriculture. At the theoretical level, it contributes to clarifying the main obstacles in the transition from the concept to the implementation of agricultural sustainability; at the practical level, it provides specific recommendations that may serve as a reference for public policy formulation.
