The concern about an imminent recession: effects on the price of metals in a globalized world

The global economy’ growth projections are low and have stagnated for the last few months. This has created a growing uncertainty on consumers, investors and governments that translates into lower consumption and investment, among other consequences. The aim of this article is to outline the impact that an imminent recession would bear on metal prices in a globalized setting. The methodology consisted in collecting data from secondary sources. The main findings show that governments apply different measures to stimulate the economy in times of recession. In spite of this inflation, the depreciation of euro and dollar, a lower demand for metals, tariffs and other fortuitous events all bore a negative impact on the price of metals.
