Abstract

In order to explain why diversification in Peru has shown a reversion towards the concentration of the export portfolio, we use econometric models of smooth transition that reduce the restrictions in the parameters that characterize the relationship between two variables of interest: diversification and productive infrastructure variables such as electrical power. With this, it is found that commodity prices, as a transition variable, alter the relationship between the mentioned variables; in addition, it is determined that the percentage variations in electrical power have contributed to the concentration of Peruvian sales in fewer export lines; and, on the contrary, encourages diversification with respect to their value, measured through extensive margins. and intensive of the Theil index, respectively.
