Challenges for a healthy aging in Peru
Abstract
The insufficiency of resources to care currently for senior citizens in Peru triggers the alert for the social problem that is coming. In fact, by 2050 the estimate of the elderly population will exceed the young population of Peru. In addition, the elderly population follows a higher growth trend towards 2070 than the total population. In this prospecting research, we analyze the most relevant factors that influence the achievement of healthy aging for the elderly population of Peru. Long-term management is needed to guarantee pensions at the time of retirement and an adaptation of health services to meet the growing demand of senior citizens. Of course, there is a growing market to attend to, and they are of interest to private and public companies; however, there is a moral issue to assess. Healthy aging must be sought in the multidimensional sense, which we also explore in the following lines. Therefore, a consensual strategic plan is necessary among different actors of society to carried out in a timely manner.
